Storm-chasing June 2008

An on-call storm-chasing opportunity took me and a handful of others from around the country to Kansas to hopefully turn up a tornado or two with veteran storm-chaser Roger Hill and crew.  We thought we would score big with the wild year so far and a "perfect storm" scenario predicted for the 5th, but unfortunately the tornadoes that day decided to touch down everywhere but where we were!

My consolation prize was my life Banded Hairstreak in Mason, TX, on the way to Denver!

We follow Roger's van into the storm...

Happy storm-chasers enjoy a nasty-looking system

More scary sky shots...

A rather interesting cloud with a rather long tail!

This little cell on the way back to Denver produced a rainbow (lower right)!

And on the way home, a stop at Choke Canyon State Park...
