Black-chinned Hummingbird in Nacogdoches, TX (Photo ©2011 by Molly Smith)

Texbirder Elaine Prince reported a Black-chinned Hummingbird
(Archilochus alexandri) at a friend's feeder in Nacogdoches; Molly
(the friend) took
the photo above. According to the TOS Handbook, this is a very rare bird for the
Pineywoods! Elaine's post to me is reprinted below; contact her at
papnan@gmail.com.
I am taking you up on posting this photo of the
black-chinned hummingbird at my friend's home in Nacogdoches, TX. She lives
in town, and keeps birdseed and hummingbird nectar out for the birds year
round, as well as providing water in several locations on her property.
I live 20 miles north of there in Garrison, TX.
We both watch and feed birds, id them, and we have never had a black-chinned
before. We've both had rufous hummers on occasion, but this was a first. She
first noticed it Oct. 25th and it was still at her home yesterday, Nov. 5th,
2011.
