Mystery Cameron County Gull


This is a bird we encountered at the Highway 48 Boat Ramp in Cameron Co., Texas, on February 29, 2016; it was hanging with three Herring Gulls, and was noticeably smaller than the Herrings.  having spent almost 30 years in San Diego, my first impression was that it was a California Gull due to the smaller size and long, pink, black-tipped bill, but I'd like others' thoughts on it; unfortunately we never saw it fly.



The mystery gull is on the right, with two Herrings on the left.



Here a Herring Gull (left) is a little closer to the mystery bird.
