June 22, 2014 - Old Military Highway (including the National Butterfly Center) and Anzalduas County Park
Obviously got away from someone, but it was still pretty cool to find a Cockatiel along Old Military Highway! (I guess this particular breed is called a "Pearl"...)
Killdeer near the levee
Black-bellied Whistling Ducks chilling out at Anzalduas
Young Black-crested Titmouse (note the gape mark)
This Tropical Parula had been hanging out at the park for awhile...
You can see the details a little better when he's in the sun...
Another Killdeer tries a half-hearted distraction display
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher with an overgrown bill looks around...
More Black-bellied Whistling Ducks demonstrate why they used to be called "tree ducks"!
Over at the National Butterfly Center, a female Fiery Skipper feeds on a fiery-looking flower!
White Checkered Skipper
Tawny Emperors on a bait log along the Walking Trail
Butterflies aren't the only critters that dine at the bait logs! (Long-billed Thrasher)
White-tipped Dove at the bird feeding area
Probably the same Long-billed Thrasher comes over to say hello...
Meanwhile, the Green Jays are fussing about something...
