January 5, 2014 - South Padre Island
Since Old Port Isabel Road was impassable, we went up SR 48, stopping at the boat ramp and enjoying some American Oystercatchers yelling at each other!
The biggest surprise on the bay side of the island was this giant dog! (The owner said he was part wolfhound and part poodle...)
The only passerine to allow photography was this Myrtle Warbler; more exciting was a female American Redstart!
A tourist enjoys a Great Egret while some visiting birders enjoy the wintering ducks...
...which included this female Red-breasted Merganser!
A Yellow Warbler chirped amongst the mangroves (along with a harsher-sounding Common Yellowthroat), but George Colley assured us it wasn't an expanding Mangrove Warbler! ☺
