August 3, 2014 - Puerto Rico Route & Hargill Playa
Scene along FM 1017
Listen hard for the slow, sad whistle of an Audubon's Oriole that was singing along the road, along with the mournful downward coo of a Greater Roadrunner.
Mourning Dove with nesting material; apparently they're still at it!
One of several Roadrunners along Puerto Rico Road.
Not the best shot, but you don't often see them in flight!
Upland Sandpipers were starting to come through; listen for the three-noted whistle amongst some Cardinal calls.
One of five Wild Turkeys in Puerto Rico proper.
Several Bobwhite families were in evidence as well!
Curious young Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
Lousy shots of a mega-rarity found by Dan Jones at his favorite hangout, the Hargill Playa: North America's second record of Collared Plover, a bird normally found from western Mexico down through most of South America!
A few of the very happy campers after that encounter!
