Day 15: Balestrand to Bergen

  Our bungalo at Balestrand

Had yet another great breakfast the next morning and headed out to wait for the hydrofoil. Had the whole deck to myself this time (the novelty had worn off, someone said), but this time we came very close to some low, rocky islands that reminded me a great deal of the Falklands in habitat (I therefore was not surprised to see Oystercatchers; even Duane caught them on film!) At a couple of spots we had a couple of rafts of eiders in dull eclipse plumage, as well as the expected gulls.

Foggy morning in Balestrand                                            More pretty scenes heading to Bergen

The boat stops at various little seaside villages to pick up passengers

We develop mechanical problems and have to switch hydrofoils at a little village, but we sure can’t complain about the surroundings!

We had to change boats due to technical difficulties, but that didn’t put us too far behind coming into Bergen and having a delightful tour of the area, including Grieg’s summer house in Troldhaugen, where I got a couple of T-shirts. We then went to an overlook of the city, then to the hotel.  Joined some of the crew for coffee in the bar, then went to dinner.  Afterwards I parked myself in the lobby to say goodbye to people, since I was booked to leave with Frøde, my bird guide for the next three days, before everyone else!
