IV. The Karoo
The barren desert region, with hidden canyons and sparse riparian areas, is home to many endemic birds. The simple song of the widespread African Marsh Warbler begins the movement, and the pace rapidly quickens with the chatter of the Red Bishop, the rhythmic duets of the Karoo Bustards, and the driving force of the calls of the White-quilled Bustard. The White-backed Mousebird makes a strong statement at several points, and the movement closes with the driving rhythms of the Social Weaver with a final word from its arch-enemy, the Pygmy Falcon.
