South African Suite

III.  The Cape

Wild seacoast and chaparral-like fynbos scrub make up much of the unique habitat of this area.  Pied Crows and Jackass Penguins call in concert to begin the movement, with the song of the White-throated Canary taking over a melodic bass line.  Coastal species such as White-fronted Plover and Bank Cormorant are represented, and fynbos specialties such Cape Sugarbird, Protea Canary, and Victorin’s Warbler add their voices.  The movement ends with the chromatic notes of the Cape Bunting and a reprise of the Jackass Penguin.
